Where do you and Travis live? Perth
Why did you choose Yallingup as your wedding destination? Travis and I chose Yallingup as our wedding destination for a number of reasons. Throughout our 8 year relationship we had spent many weekends down south, and have always loved the beauty and laid back nature of the south west. For us, getting married was about escaping the city and immersing ourselves, and our family and friends, in a stunning and relaxed atmosphere – and this is what we got.
What was the theme and colour scheme for your wedding? The theme of the wedding was pure elegance, and the colour scheme was red, black and silver.
What was the easiest part to plan for your wedding? Where we would get married.
How many guests did you have at your wedding? 85.
How did you go looking for your wedding dress was it easy or a laborers task? Picking my wedding dress was one of the easiest decisions I’ve made. It was the second dress shop we’d been to, and the first dress I tried on. As soon as the assistant had tied up the back of the dress and I turned to show my Mum and Maid of Honour, we all started crying and I knew this was the dress I’d get married in.
What flowers did you carry? I carried red roses and orchids.
Explain about the running of the day and what time did you start preparing etc? I was up and about by 6am. At 8am we had breakfast delivered to my room at Caves House, and my bridesmaids and I relaxed on the balcony. By 9am the hairdresser had arrived, followed by Pete, the photographer and our makeup artist. From 9 til 2 there was lots of makeup and bobby pins, and Pete was there to catch every amazing moment on camera. My Mum and Travis’s Mum popped in and out throughout the day, getting their hair and makeup done, and smiling for the camera. At 12 we opened a bottle of Veuve and had some cheese and crackers. At 1pm I was in my dress and feeling good. Unknown to me, there was a bridesmaid emergency going on around me – my cousin’s dress had completely come apart, and the three other bridesmaids and my Mum were frantically trying to stick it back together with electrical tape and thread. This is a huge testament to my fantastic bridesmaids and Mum that they were able to do all this with me in the room, and I didn’t even realise until they told me the next day. Once the dress was fixed, it was time for some more photos. Next thing I know my Dad had arrived and the butterflies started doing somersaults in my stomach, luckily my Mum was there to calm me down, and at 2.30 we were ready to go.
Describe what happened at your ceremony We had to walk down quite a few steps to get to the ceremony, so I was very happy to have both my Mum and Dad walking me down the aisle. When I eventually saw Travis waiting for me I caught my breath. I could see that he was struggling to stop from crying, and so I knew if I didn’t hold it together we would both be a bawling mess. Walking down the aisle, looking only at Travis, was the most amazing moment of my life, I could see complete happiness (and some nerves) on his face, and I was feeling exactly the same way. The ceremony was perfect, and we were incredibly blessed to have my Grandad say a few words before we were officially announced as husband and wife.
How long did you leave between the ceremony and the reception? The ceremony finished about 3.30, so as soon as everyone had come up and congratulated us, Pete organised the entire wedding party for a group photo. I think this was the moment that every one of our guests fell in love with Pete, because in his search for the perfect shot, he braved his way through being bitten by solider ants until he was completely happy. Next up was family photos in the gardens and then a few bridal party shots. At 4pm the bridal party jumped into the limo, popped a bottle of Veuve and made our way to Injidup Cove. When we all got out the car Pete told us we would be doing a bit of climbing. We ended up on top of a cliff overlooking the ocean. There were huge, ochre boulders that Pete had us sit on, while the storm clouds rolled overhead and the sun peaked through the clouds – that made for some of the most beautiful images we have ever seen. When we got back to the limo we realised we didn’t have enough time to go to the beach because we had only booked the car until 6pm – but Pete came up with a plan. The limo dropped us back at the hotel, and Travis and I jumped in the back of Pete’s truck, while the rest of the bridal party piled into two cars, and we made our way to Yallingup beach – and it was worth it. The photos Pete took of us as a group and of Trav and I still make me catch my breath. Each shot has big, black storm clouds rolling in, with a bright orange sun setting on the horizon - we couldn’t have imagined a more perfect end. As Travis and I were having our final shots, the bridesmaids were getting nervous about the impending rain so started to make their way back up the beach and to the cars. As Pete’s finger hit the button on the very last shot, the sky opened up. Huge thanks to our groomsmen here, as soon as they felt the first drop of water on their jackets we were off with them sheltering me as we sprinted up the beach, up the wooden stairs and into waiting cars – I still don’t know how I ran in my dress.
Which beach did you go to for wedding photographs? Injidup Cove and Yallingup Beach.
What was the weather like on your wedding day? Perfect the entire way through. Sunny and mild during the ceremony, and right where it mattered, we got storm clouds.
Why did choose Caves House as your wedding venue? Travis and I wanted everything in the one place – including accommodation for all our guests. We organised to have every room in Caves House booked for just our wedding – the bridal party, parents and grandparents – for the two nights before the wedding and the night of. All our wedding guests stayed at Seashells Resort which is on the grounds of Caves House, so everyone was relaxed.
What was the highlight at your reception? The reception flew by, but the highlight was without a doubt the speeches. We were truly overwhelmed by the words of love spoken to us by the best man, maid of honour and both our parents. People were crying with laughter, and touched by the warmth and love that both our families have for each other.
What was your bridal walt song? We danced to David Gray’s, This Year’s Love. Travis and I had never thought to allocate ourselves ‘a song’ as so many couples do, so choosing the song we would dance our bridal waltz to was difficult. We eventually chose it on a train in Croatia, we heard the song and loved it.
Best moment of your wedding day? Finally marrying the man I have loved for 8 years, and seeing the look on his face when he saw me for the first time in my wedding dress, walking down the aisle towards him.
Describe the look and flavour of your cake, plus any other desserts that were served? We had a seven tier cake, made up of one cake on the top tier and 90 individually wrapped cakes on the other tiers. The decoration on each individual cake was designed to look like our wedding invitations, with a mini replica of my bouquet on the top tier, and individual roses scattered throughout the other tiers. We had White Mud, Marble Mud and Fruit Cake.
Your wedding photographer was Pete at Real Image photography what made you initially choose Pete and how did he perform on the day? When I was planning all the important stuff for the wedding, it was about 18 months before the day, and Trav was working away, so I had my Mum with me. Travis and I live in Perth, so choosing suppliers meant making trips down south and fitting in as many meetings as possible. Pete was the first, and only, photographer Mum and I met. Pete came to the hotel we were staying at, and as soon as we met him, Mum and I both knew we didn’t need to look any more. Travis and I are very laid back, but the one thing that we wanted to get right for our wedding was the photos – these will be our memories for the rest of our lives, so the person we chose had to be perfect. One of the first things Pete said was how laid back he was, and that he didn’t do staged photos. Pete’s aim was to get natural photos, of moments that capture joy, love, warmth – the things that can’t be staged or forced. When Pete showed us one of his completed albums, Mum and I were almost in tears, and we didn’t even know the people in the photos!! On the day itself, Pete was fantastic, he was there at 9am and didn’t leave until almost midnight. He made the bridal party feel relaxed to the point that we didn’t even realise he was there snapping away at some points. He made every guest fall in love with him because of his easy going, friendly nature. And now Travis and I have the most beautiful photos to remind us of the most amazing day of our lives, Pete definitely made our day that much more special.
How do you feel now that your wedding is over? Completely happy and ready to embark on our next adventure.
Where did you honeymoon? We stayed at Injidup Spa Resort in pure luxury.
