Karina and Travers - Interview with the Bride

How long have you and Travers been together and when did you decide to get married?
We have been together 10 years and decided to get married 18 months ago.

What was the theme and colour scheme for your wedding?
Vintage, soft pallettes.

What was the hardest part to plan for your wedding?
Flowers, because we did not employ a florist.

How many guests did you have at your wedding?
90.

Details about your wedding dress and accessories:
Simple and elegant vintage lace dress.  I wore a beautiful Kailis diamond encrusted pearl on a chain and a pearl necklace.  Diamond earrings from my grandmother.

When did you start looking for your wedding dress?
As soon as Travers proposed!

Did you go with tradition something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue and what were the items?
Yes.  Pearl necklace and earrings where the something old representing both sides of my family.  My silver bracelet was the something new and I had a tattoo transfer in a heart shape in blue - so did all the bridesmaids.

What flowers did you carry?
Peonies, Lythiansums.

Tell me about the running of the day what time did you start preparing etc?
Day started at 9am with breakfast, then onto makeup and hair.  Ready by 3pm for a 3.30 ceremony.

Describe what happened at your ceremony:
I was laughing and crying at the same time.  It was great fun and beautiful at the same time.  It was the best part of the day and I loved every minute of it. We wrote our own vows which made it extra special.

What did your guests do after your ceremony while you and your husband went off and had wedding photos?
We had croquet and boules on the lawn overlooking the dam, with music from Paige and Lyndsay.  Fantastic canapes and Leeuwin Estate Brut for all.

Why did choose Leeuwin Estate as your wedding venue?
Travers works there, and we new that it was the best place to have a wedding! We knew that Leeuwin has the best service and food and it was easy planning, knowing exactly what we would be getting.

What happened at your wedding reception?
My dad cant speak english very well as its his second language.  He surpised everyone with a great speech. There were tears and laughter and he recieved a standing ovation. It was very special.

What food was served at the reception?
Entree was Baked figs wrapped in prosciutto, Duck liver parfait on toasted brioche and a tomato consomme. Main was a choice of Dhu Fish or Scotch Fillet. Dessert was a choice of Chocolate Fondant or a Hazelnut parfait with macaroons and raspberries.

Best moment of your wedding day?
The ceremony.

Describe the look and flavor of your cake, plus any other desserts that were served?
Flourless chocolate cake with grenache and butter cream.

I can see a candy bar in the back ground of one of the photos did you put this together yourself and how did your guests react to a candy bar?
Yes, we provided all the jars and lollies.  Rachael from Leeuwin put it all together, and it was a huge hit.  Most of the lollies where gone before main course!

On your tables you have papers with Herald Tribune – Margaret River edition what was the meaning behind these?
We stuck to the vintage theme with old style newspaper.  Travers made these, and we wrapped them up to look like a home delivered paper.  We had stories of how we met in them, along with the menu and other things.

Your wedding photographer was Pete from Real Image Photography what kind of a photographer was he like on the day and how do you both feel about your wedding photo’s now that you have seen them?
Pete was great, and made everyone feel relaxed.  We love our photos, and he always kept us informed about what was happening.  We couldnt recommend Pete highly enough.

How do you feel now that your wedding is over?
Relieved that everything was just as we planned and hoped for.

Were did you honeymoon?
We had a mini-moon at Rottnest, and plan to take a longer honeymoon in New York later in the year.

Advice for other planning brides:
Don't do the flowers yourself, and dont stress about the little things.

When you look back what would you have done differently on your wedding day?
Nothing - it was perfect!

Karina, I think your flowers look lovely, without your having said so, I would never have thought they weren't done by a professional - well done. (cake looks delicious too!!)
