Caris and Rod - Interview with the Bride

How long have you and Rod been together?
4 years.

What was the theme and colour scheme for your wedding?
No theme. Colours were black & white with a touch of pink.

What was the hardest part to plan for your wedding?
The ceremony music - We had the song to walk down the aisle picked months in advance but the others were still undecided the week before. Luckly we found the perfect songs just in time.

Did you have a budget and did you stick to it?
Our budget was $10,000. We went over just.

How many guests did you have at your wedding?
67.

Details about your dress and attire:
My dress was a white strapless Henry Roth dress. Across the top there is beading and crystal detail which continued down the left side to the hip. There is also an open panel of tulle which also had crystals on it. My earings where a diamond shape made up up of 9 smaller diamond shaped crystals. My bracelet was my 'something old' from my godmother.

When did you start looking for your wedding dress?
My bridesmaids and I went to the bridal expo in Perth around 10 months before our wedding and had a look around at dresses while up there, I found one I loved but didn't buy it, I ended up buying my dress from Bunbury maybe around 7 months before the wedding.

How did it feel wearing your dress for the whole day was it comfortable?
My dress was very comfortable even in the heat but I was glad to get it off as it was getting heavy.

What flowers did you carry?
I carried 10 mini gerberas in a posy bouquet.

Tell me about the running of the day what time did you start preparing etc?
The day seemed to go forever. I surprised myself at how calm I was, I even did the washing in the morning. My bridesmaids started heading to the hairdressers around 9:45am once they had all gone I put my son to sleep to ensure he lasted the day without being tired and cranky. I then went to the hairdressers while my sister-in-law stayed home in case my son woke. Once I had my hair done, I came home gathered everything and everyone up and headed into Bunbury to get my makeup done. Arrived at my stepmums to find two of my bridesmaids looking gorgeous. After the other two were all done it was my turn to get makeup done. Just as I was finishing I made sure Mum was called so she could come over and help me into my dress. Once we were all dressed we headed out to the garden to have some more photos before our transport arrived. We then went to my grandparents were we met up with the rest of my family and had more photos. We then got back in the cars and headed to the ceremony.

Describe what happened at your ceremony and what time was your ceremony?
Ceremony time was 4:30pm but we were about 10 minutes late. When we arrived at the ceremony location we all stood up the top of the hill while we waited for our chauffeurs and my Mum who was my son's chauffeur to arrive and be seated at the ceremony. Once the music begun to play we started to make our way down the stairs. I was ushered to my husband by my Dad and my Step Dad. My little sister (13) did a reading at the beginning of the ceremony from a book called "you & me". Rod and I wrote our own vows so that was a huge surprise for our guests and also each other. We then signed the certificate and documents but we also had another surprise for everyone, we had chosen two very special people in our lives to be our witnesses. I choose my Pop and Rod choose his Dad. After the signing was done we also had another surprise where my Pop gave me a family heirloom, a locket and chain that has a photo of his mother (my great grandmother) in it. This was saved from a ship she was on after it burnt and sunk just over 110 years ago. After the tears the ceremony was over and we got to greet our guests and have more photos.

What did your guests do after your ceremony while you and Rod went off and had wedding photos?
The majority of the guests went to The Rose Hotel for drinks.

Where did you go for wedding photos?
We had some photos at Pioneer Park and then went to Jetty Baths beach.

Why did choose Pioneer Park as your wedding venue?
We choose the park as our venue because we wanted to be close to the beach but not at the beach. We also loved the gardens and the slopes that the park has.

What happened at your reception?
We were introduced to our guests and then took a seat at the bridal table. As we didn't have a full sit down meal we had a few speeches, then a bit of a break where we talked amongst our guests and then some more speeches. We cut the cake, did our first dance and then had the garter and bouquet games and then the night turned into a party where most of our guests danced and enjoyed themselves.

Can I also ask what role did your little one play on the day and how was he on the day?
Our son really didn't play a role other than walking down the aisle with the bridesmaids - I guess he was the page boy but didn't have the rings or anything as he wasn't even 2.
Same as our flower girl. She didn't have a role other than walking down with her Mum and being cute.
Both kids were wonderful, we just let them run around and play with the guests as our ceremony went on. At the reception Taj, (our son) just basically ate cake as he could reach the bottom layer of the cupcakes.

What food was served at the reception?
We had finger food being served while our guests mingled and moved around the hall.

Best moment of your wedding day?
I honestly don't have a best moment, I enjoyed the entire day. It was perfect.

Describe the look and flavor of your cake, plus any other desserts that were served?
We had a cutting cake and cupcakes. The cutting cake was round and white, wrapped around it was the same ribbon as the candles for the centre pieces. We had our own cake topper with our names on it. The cupcakes were very simple, they were just covered in white fondant with a slight swirl in them. The flavour of the cutting cake and the cupcakes were chocolate mud.

Did you make anything for your wedding?
Yes, I made the centre pieces - pillar candles with our wedding colours wrapped around and a love heart embellishment stuck on them. I also made the invites.

What were the bombonieres for your guests?
They were pink 5x5 boxes filled with black, pink and white jelly jeans and a pink love heart chocolate.

Where did you spend your wedding night?
Lighthouse Beach Resort in Bunbury.

Were did you honeymoon?
In Bali for a week.

Advice for other planning brides:
Get everything sorted well in advance and then just relax the week before the big day. I did this and was amazed at how relaxed I went into the wedding day.
