Ashleigh and Bradley - Interview with the Bride

How did you and Bradley meet?
Brad & I met though my brother, I had moved away for a few years and came back to Wagin. Being a small town everybody knows everybody, but I didn't actually know Brad, he is a few years older than me so we didn't hang out in the same crowd, but it was lovely to meet him and I must admit he did all the chasing.

Have to ask what was the hen’s party for you and the buck’s party for Bradley?
My hens party was in Perth, we all stayed at The Tradewinds in Fremantle and my mum had surprised me by organising a Hummer for 10 of my closest friends and we drove around Perth for an hour and then we got dropped back at Fremantle and another 20 girls met up with us at Fremantle Boat harbour which my bridesmaids had organised a river cruise the theme was black, lace & pearls.
Brad didn't have a bucks party as such, his groomsman organised for a group of guys to go up to Horrocks Beach fishing for a week.

Who was in your bridal party?
Brad had his 3 closest mates who he has known for years Scott, Jarrod & Andrew. I had my sister Dominique and my 2 best friends Danika & Kahli. They are all gorgeous people and we are so honoured to have them in our wedding party.

What was the theme and colour palette for your wedding?
We had a vintage theme/French look for our wedding,  I didn't really have a colour palette but there was lots of silver, black and white.

Where did you get inspiration for decorating your wedding?
I had always dreamed of having a Vintage theme for my wedding, so I spent a lot of time on Google searching for Vintage Weddings, I also found the Real Wedding Magazine extremely helpful. In the end though I hired a Wedding Stylist (Queen of Theme) who has everything vintage/french you could possibly ask for. Jane at Queen of theme is extremely talented and made one big ugly room look extremely beautiful.

When you have a wedding in Wagin what services aren't available?
I suppose getting married in a Country town, there isn't the flashy restaurants with the beautiful views, but it is what you make it and if your willing to put the hard work in anything can be made to look just as beautiful, we had to decorate the reception ourselves (with the help of Jane at Queen of theme) we also had to find caterers willing to cater for over 100 people, but we were lucky to have a couple who live in Wagin and are great cooks offered to cater for us, I suppose the answer to your question is there isn't many services available, I was extremely lucky that Perth is only 2 hours away so I made numerous trips to and from Perth to get everything sorted.

What was the hardest part to plan for your wedding?
I don't think anything was hard, I knew what I wanted from the start it was just a matter of finding it. I was very organised and had a lot of help from family and friends and didn't stress at all which I think is the main thing.

What was the one thing you weren't going to comprise on for your wedding day?
The wedding stylist, Brad thought it was a bit extreme having someone come down and do it for me, but it was what I wanted and I made sure I had it.

What were some traditional details that you didn't incorporate into your wedding?
We didn't really follow the traditional details, I think the only thing we had was getting married in a church.

How many guests did you have at your wedding?
130.

Where did you get ready for your wedding?
My mums house, and Brad got ready at our house.

Details about your dress and attire:
My dress was everything I dreamed of and more, it was strapless and had a sweetheart neckline. With rouching all the way to the hips, it came up higher on one side and had pleated silk underneath. It also had a fine strip of beading under the bust and a charm that hung in the middle. It was very figure hugging and was the perfect shape for my figure.

Where did you go to buy your wedding dress and why?
I went to numerous places to find a wedding dress and could not decide on "The One", as I liked so many things from different dresses, so I decided to go to a bridal shop and Lynette the head designer there exactly what I wanted and she went away and came back with a drawing of my dress, it was exactly what I was looking for and after numerous dress fittings my dress was made just perfectly to fit my body shape. I would highly recommend Brides by Design to anybody who is looking for a dress but just can't find the one they have been dreaming of for so long.

What will you now do with your wedding dress?
A few girlfriends of mine have just recently married and there has been talk of a wedding dress party, which I think is a fantastic idea so that we can all wear our dresses again.

Details about your bridesmaid attire:
They were a dusty pink colour with pearl beading and one strap in the middle going over the shoulder.

Details about the grooms and groomsman attire:
Brad and the boys wore, grey suits with a fine pinstripe. The boys wore silver ties and Brad wore ivory.
I chose the grey suit to match with the dusty pink bridesmaid dresses.

What flowers did you carry and why?
Roses, as they fitted in perfectly with the vintage theme.

Tell me about the running of the day what time did you start preparing etc?
The girls and I all stayed at my mums the night before, we all woke at about 7.30am and went for a walk, then came back and mum made breakfast for us, then we all had showers, lazed about until about 9am when Kahli (one of my bridesmaids) started doing the hair, the makeup artist arrived at about 11am, and then the photographer arrived at 1pm, we were not rushed at all and were all ready to go at about 2.30PM.

Describe what happened at your ceremony and what time was your ceremony?
The ceremony was very quick (Just the way we wanted it) as we got married in a church we didn't want it to go on and on and have our guests bored, so we said our vows and had our brothers sign the register and it was all over in about half an hour, The church JUST held all of our guests and it was quite a warm day so I think they were glad it was quick. The ceremony was at 3.00pm.

Did you go for traditional vows or did you both write your own?
Traditional.

What did your guests do after your ceremony while you and Bradley went off and had wedding photos?
We had organised canapes and drinks at the Local District Club and then a bus to take all the guests to the reception from there.

Where did you go for wedding photos?
We went to my step-dad's farm and to a railway track in town. We also had photos at our reception venue.

By the look of the photos it looks like you decorated the reception beautifully tell me what you did?
I was very lucky to have a very good decorator, she knew exactly what I wanted and it turned out amazing.
I also had a lot of help from our family and friends, we had to do the roof lining ourselves and I think in the end we used about 400M of violeen and stapled it all together, to give the flow effect.  We had all the table decorations and all the other little things around the room to give it that little bit of WOW factor.

You also had a little photo corner please share the details on this?
Yes, this was our decorator's idea, as it was such a big room we needed something extra, so she decided to create the "Lovers Corner", everybody loved it, and we had photos on it as well.

What happened at your reception?
Our reception was the BEST, the groomsman did a wonderful job of all the speeches and Brad's speech bought a tear to all the girls eyes it was so sweet. Our game to get the garter & bouquet was hilarious, we played knights & princesses and let me just say I am glad we captured it all on video as I still watch it and have fits of laughter. One bonus of getting married in Wagin is nobody has to go home at Midnight, so I think the last of our guests left at 5.00am.

Your bridal waltz song.
Everything I do, I do it for you -  by Bryan Adams

What was the catering at your reception?
The food was beautiful, we had a buffet and there was everything you could have imagined to choose from. All of our guests commented on how lovely it was and some even went back for seconds.

Best moment of your wedding day?
I loved all of it and would do it all over again in a heart beat.

Describe the look and flavor of your cake?
Our cake was a 3 tiered cake with rouched icing. The bottom layer was chocolate mud cake, the middle was white chocolate and the top was fruit cake. I had the same roses as our bouquets in between each layer and pearls and lace wrapped around the outside of each layer.

Did you make anything for your wedding?
I personally didn't make anything, but my wonderful friend made all of our stationery for the wedding: invites, seating cards, church booklets etc.

Where did you spend your wedding night?
At our house and my beautiful friends decorated our bedroom with rose petals & candles.

How do you feel now that your wedding is over?
I am absolutely loving married life and am finding that I am bored as all of my spare time went into planning our special day.

Were did you honeymoon?
Bali - We stayed at the Anantara in Seminyak, which was absolutely luxury.

What words of advice have your Mum and Dad given you in regards to marriage?
Be truthful and honest with each other and you will live a happy life.

When you look back what would you have done differently on your wedding day?
Nothing, I loved every bit of our wedding.
