We booked our venue in July 2014 (7-8 months prior). We were looking for a warm wedding in Feb / March so it was meant to be that there was a Saturday of a long weekend available. We did not organize any other details until Nov, Dec when we had some time to take a couple of trips away to plan. We did not have a specific budget but we tried to make good decisions and omit things that we did not think were necessary. We did not have wedding cars as we had our ceremony and reception at the same place and no one would see them. We prioritized the venue, good food, nice wine, great music and excellent company. All up, with 85 guests the wedding probably cost $45,000 including rings and accommodation.

Given I was being married on a vineyard; I did not want my wedding dress to be anything too ornate or extravagant. I liked the simple shape of my dress and the small train plus I loved the beading. We paid for the bridesmaid's dresses, tans, hair, and makeup for the bridesmaids. The bridesmaids were presented with their earrings and a bracelet as a gift the morning of the wedding. For the groomsmen's we paid for the suits, shirts, ties, and handkerchiefs. Plus the groomsmen were presented with cufflinks as a gift the day of the wedding.julieryanwedding 7julieryanwedding 8julieryanwedding 9julieryanwedding 10
The morning was very relaxed as the ceremony did not start until 5:00pm. The girls started getting ready at 11:00am and the boys played an early round of golf. Canapés and drinks on the lawn commenced after the ceremony about 5:45pm (whilst we had family & bridal party photos. The reception began at 7:00pm.

I was not too specific about the type of flowers in the bouquet. I gave our florist a few pictures of the colour palette and described the overall aesthetic and she crafted an amazing creation. The flowers she used were unstructured posies with dusty miller foliage, brunnii, peach David Austin roses, white dahlia, grey gumleaf, succulents, green hypericum berry and white off cream rose wrapped with hessian.

We had a lot of family involvement! I have a very large family and so we found ways for everyone to be a part of our day. Both Julie's Mum & Dad walked her down the aisle. My two sisters and sister-in-law were the bridesmaids and one of Ry's brother-in-laws was a groomsmen. Ryan's sister and Julie's step-dad were the witnesses. Julie's brother was the emcee for the night and our 4 nieces were the beautiful flower girls! Ryan's Grandparents were unable to travel from NSW for the wedding (he has a Granddad who is 101!) Ryan's sister organized for both sets of Grandparents to record a video message for us. This message was played on a big screen at the ceremony and was a really special moment.

Our celebrant asked us to answer some questions individually prior to the wedding that she incorporated into the ceremony. We also had her read out a section on what Margaret River meant to us and why we decided to get married there. We included a wine ceremony, wrote our own vows and had one of my sister's perform a reading for us.

After the ceremony and our thank you's, we commenced photos whilst the guests mingled on the lawn. There was an outdoor bar set up and guests enjoyed drinks and canapés as the sun set.

The choice for Margaret River was a natural one for us. Ry and I have been together for 10 years and the first holiday we took together was to Yallingup & Margaret River. Over the years we would come down as often as possible and 9 years after our first trip, we became engaged at the same winery we visited on our first trip. We looked at several venues but we thought the outlook at Watershed was the best. The vines and lake in the distance made for beautiful photos. We trialed the wines and the food which were both excellent. Seeing as the restaurant is several times gold plated we thought it was the best fit for us and our wedding. We had several speeches planned at our reception so we broke it into sections so that they were not too long at any point. Our parent's spoke first and then my sister, Ryan's best man and a mutual friend of ours gave extremely touching and funny speeches. Ryan, I and our friends and family love to dance so the dance floor was packed all night! One of our good friends got so into the dancing that he completely split his pants!julieryanwedding 21

We chose to have a traditional sit down dinner. We have been to many beautiful weddings of each but thought a sit down would be best for us. The beautiful local food was one of the reasons we chose the venue so we wanted it to be enjoyed (without trying to juggle a clutch purse and a champagne! The sit down also gave the feet a rest before the dance floor fired up later!!
