Joanne & Chris's Dunsborough Wedding
Interview with the Bride
We got engaged on 7 January 2014 so we had just over a year to plan everything. Our wedding cost around 25-30K with 104 guests. There were no real blowouts. The cake only cost me $250.00 after I had 3 lessons to learn how to make sugar flowers and all other ingredients.
Our gifts to our Bridal Party were - the Bridesmaids received a cute bag with a mimco bangle + some earrings, a card and heel stoppers. We gifted the Groomsmen personalised cufflinks and cigars.
We wanted a place where we didn't have to finish up at midnight and that we could have every aspect of DIY that we wanted. We were able to provide our own caterers and alcohol and it allowed for the ceremony, cocktail hour and reception to all be in separate places but at the same venue. We had a bus do pickups at the all accommodation around Dunsborough from 2.00pm and the ceremony started at 3.30pm. Guests were greeted by groomsmen with Mimosas.
We had an old wooden ladder with photos of close family friends that had passed away and a few trinkets of Chris' grandfather who had recently passed away.
Straight after the ceremony we had beers and champagne along with pulled pork and vegetarian sliders, all of which was brought down to the grassed area while we mingled and got family photos. Then the guests were ushered onto the upper level verandah were we had a 3 tier cake made of cheese wheels and a large antipasto selection for everyone to enjoy. The wedding party left to the vineyard across the road for photos from 4.15pm till 5.45pm.
When it came to my wedding dress I couldn't find anything that I LOVED in Perth so I flew to Sydney to visit a friend and spend the weekend dress shopping. David Jones was my last stop and I had 'that' moment once I put the dress on. Its not like anything I had ever seen before and it was so flattering and the detail is amazing.
The view was breathtaking at Dunsborough Cottages.
I hired Charmaine from Ferguson Valley Events to setup on the day, however everything that was there was sourced from mainly second hand or recycled goods. As we had the property from the Wednesday before the wedding most of the setup was done prior to the big day with the help of family and friends and all that was left for Charmaine were the little things on the day.
My dad was amazing as he made the lolly cart, wishing well AND the dance floor.
We joined the celebration on the verandah before everyone was ushered to the marquee at 6.45pm for the celebrations to really being. The Wedding Party was announced in at 7.00pm followed by a quick speech by my brother, who was the MC for the evening. Mains were served in the form of more substantial Mexican food (our favourite food) before the speeches started at 8.00pm we had 6 speeches and then 3 drink breaks. We then cut the cake followed by 3 more and then the Bridal Bouquet toss and the first dance.
We had 9 courses of stand up cocktail tapas ranging from pulled pork rolls to mini gourmet pizzas with vodka infused sorbet and 3 cheese croquets. Everything was amazing and there was so much food the caterer Tapalicious Events & Catering wrapped it up and left it for us on a buffet table for later in the evening.
Our wedding was amazing and everyone that came said they had never been to a wedding that was like ours. The whole day flowed and there was never a time that anyone stood around bored waiting for the next proceedings.
Advice for other brides planning their wedding:
Plan ahead and don't go overboard. Visit the tip. A lot of my stuff (the 5 piece wicker setting) was upcycled and after a coat of paint it looks great for one day. Be as organized as you can to ensure you can sit down and relax with your bridesmaids while you're getting ready.
Anything you would do differently if you could have your wedding again?
Given the chance again I wouldn't do anything differently but I would have hired a videographer.
