Chelsea & Shaun's Sumptuous Sanctuary Wedding
Interview with the Bride
We got engaged on the 10th of Feb 2015. We picked a date for the wedding and started planning in August 2015. We had 108 people including 9 children. Shaun and I did most things together. To be honest Shaun dealt with most of the suppliers but all decisions were made together.
The groomsmen got an engraved beer mug, and instead of a big gift we paid for their suit hire. They were happy for us to do that it was more beneficial than any gift we would have gotten them. For the bridesmaids they got engraved champagne glasses, a little silver Guess bracelet and their robes to wear while we were getting ready.
When looking for my wedding gown, I had left it quite late . . . . so I had to pay an express fee for my dress. I think the exact date was the 7th of October 2015. I only went shopping once and we bought my dress and the 3 bridesmaids dresses all from the same store. The bridesmaid’s dresses came in before Christmas and my dress came in a few days into January.
My favourite part about my wedding dress was the lace around the top and I really liked the train when it was spread out nicely - It was really nice for the photos. I also picked that dress because it was pretty lightweight which was good for a January wedding. It was also pretty comfortable because it didn’t have any boning.
For my bouquet - to be honest I don’t even know what flowers were in my bouquet. I just went on the Scentiment flowers website and picked the display bouquet. I liked it because it was mostly white with a splash of pink in it which I thought looked elegant. The bridesmaids had baby’s breath which went really well with the lilac grey dresses.
We picked The Sanctuary Golf Resort because we wanted the day to run smoothly and be non-stressful. Having the ceremony and the reception in the same place meant that the bridal party and our guests didn’t have to travel between venues and the golf course is so beautiful that we didn’t need to go anywhere else for photos. It was also ideal for our guests as many of them travelled long distances and they could book to stay at the Sanctuary with a discount. It was also pretty central for all our guests that lived in the region.
The ceremony was scheduled to start at 4pm, I arrived a couple of minutes after 4 as I didn’t want our bridal party and the guests standing in the sun for too long. The ceremony lasted about 25 minutes. After the ceremony everyone congratulated us and we had a group photo. The family stuck around for some more photos and then they joined the rest of the guests at the bar. While we were getting photos the guests had canapés and pre dinner drinks and took photos in the photo booth. We took photos for about 1 hour then went back to the bridal suite for some canapés and drinks and to relax for a bit. We arrived at the reception at 6.30pm and the first course was served not long after our arrival.
We didn’t have much of a style or a theme but if I was going to describe it in any way I would say it was simple and elegant. The colours that we used for the decorations were silver, purple and ivory. We had silver sashes on the chairs and purple orchids submerged in water inside glass cylinders.
We only invited children of immediate family (nieces and nephews). All up, there were nine children that had a seat and a meal. All of the children over the age of 12, had the same three course meal as the adults and the children under 12 had nuggets and chips and ice cream. All of them had unlimited soft drink. There were also three children under the age of 3. We didn’t have anything set for the kids to do but they entertained themselves on the dancefloor and blocked up the photo booth line. The Sanctuary Golf Resort did offer to set up some children’s golf which we decided against for the safety of the golf course. I wouldn’t even be game enough to have a go on their beautifully manicured course.
Since the ceremony and the reception were in the same place, the guests went straight inside where it was a bit cooler. They could buy drinks from the bar if they wanted to, or they could wait until 6pm when the pre-dinner drinks and canapés started. Quite a few of the quests were staying at The Sanctuary so I think some of them might have gone back to their rooms for a while. Everyone made good use of the photo booth while they were waiting for us.
We had lots of dancing and fun and games during the evening. The only speeches we had were Father of the Bride, Father of the Groom, The Groom and The Best Man. We didn’t want to have too many speeches as sometimes they go for too long and people lose interest. We also wanted plenty of time for all the fun things. We played a few games and Simon (The DJ) was great at getting everyone up on the dancefloor. We did the garter game and the throwing of the bouquet. Other than those two games, Simon got us doing things like the Macarena and he got the groomsmen in the middle to do YMCA. Everyone got up and had some fun.
We wouldn’t change a thing about our day, everything was perfect. The only thing might be not to be so nervous on the day. I think Shaun and I were really nervous for most of the day but once I was standing there waiting to go down the aisle it all went away and I didn’t understand what I was worried about. Other than that, we were both extremely happy with how smoothly the day travelled.
My advice to other brides would be; don’t over-complicate things. We tried to keep everything simple and we didn’t do any more than what was necessary. The main thing is that everyone has a good time.
For our honeymoon we went to Phuket. It was the perfect place to wind down after the crazy few weeks leading up to the wedding. We had never been there before and we were really happy with our choice.
Lastly, we just wanted to mentiont that Lauren (from Henderson's Photographics) was absolutely amazing and we couldn’t be happier with the quality of the photos. We didn’t set aside very much time for photos however Lauren made the most of it and revealed her natural talent. Also, our photos were all ready by the time we got back from our honeymoon. We are so happy that we chose Henderson’s and we will definitely be using them in the future.
