Interview with the Bride

We gave ourselves 12 months to plan our wedding. We had 140 guests including ourselves. Only 5 children under the age of 12 attended. The little ones loved dancing to the music, but I think it was the photobooth that entertained them the most.

We gifted our bridesmaids pink satin robes and Flowerbomb perfume and the groomsmen received NBA novelty socks.

I started to look for my dress in January, 10 months before my wedding. What I loved the best about my dress was the beaded neckline and low back.

Luke wore a charcoal two piece suit, with a white vest and white tie.

We wanted to have our ceremony and reception at the one place where people can stay as well. We didn’t want our guest to be travelling back and forth. Abbey Beach Resort was the ideal place as we had a lot of family and friends travelling to Busselton from Harvey, Perth and interstate.

Peonies were out of season so we had mainly roses, baby’s breath, dusty miller and camellia leaves in our bouquets. The soft pastel colours of pale pink, white, cream and apricot complimented the bridesmaid dress colour beautifully.

We just wanted the soft floral romantic look, lots of white and soft pink flowers which we carried through to the reception.

We woke up to a wet and windy morning. The ceremony wasn’t until 2.30pm so it gave us girls plenty of time for our hair and makeup. The weather eased a little so the guys took the opportunity for a quick game of cricket with their friends. The morning went smoothly and quickly. We managed lunch and champagne before getting dressed.

As a special touch to the ceremony, we lit unity candles to symbolise the two families coming together.

Our celebrant, Jen, spoke about us growing together as individuals and as partners. The poems “The Art of Marriage” and “These Hands” added that special touch. It was a beautiful ceremony.

We had a floral arbor made for us. It was decorated with beautiful white and pale pink flowers. The arbour was draped with soft white voile curtains. We also had the large LOVE letters for the ceremony but the wet conditions prevented us from having our ceremony outside, however it still looked amazing inside the Abbey.

A tall thin vase held a large bouquet of baby’s breath and pink and white flowers which were the centrepieces for the tables at our reception. The burlap drapes from the ceiling added to that classical look, thanks to Wez Enterprises.

After the ceremony our family and friends were invited back to the Atrium Lounge Bar for drinks and canapés. It gave everyone a chance to relax and mingle.

The speeches were fantastic. Everyone was in fits of laughter from the MC’s introductions to the final speeches. The Fathers gave a beautiful speech but it was the bridesmaid and best man speech that stole the show. My Grandparents are both in permanent care and couldn’t attend our wedding, but when Simon played my Nonna’s favourite song “That’s Amore” everyone was on the dance floor. What a memorable night.

I wouldn’t change anything, the day was beautiful. The most important people in our lives were there to share in our happiness. The only thing I would say is take the time to enjoy the day, it goes so quickly.

The little things that you think matter, don’t really matter on the day. The love and happiness you share with your family and friends is what you have with you forever.

Being both teachers, our honeymoon is on hold until January school holidays where we will be spending a few weeks in Hawaii.
