Interview with the Bride

We got engaged at the end of September and decided at the end of October that we wanted our wedding to be in April the following year. So that gave us just over 5 months to plan our wedding. This was the best decision as it really kicked our bottoms into gear to organise everything.

We had 50 guests attend our casual outdoor wedding and somewhere where we could have the ceremony and reception in the same place so no one had to worry about transport between the two places. We spent a weekend down south and had a look at a few venues but we both just knew straight away when we saw Chandeliers on Abbey that, that was the place we wanted to get married. It was the perfect size, it is a STUNNING location, it fitted in with the rustic theme and we were able to organise our own catering and alcohol, which gives you a lot more flexibility.

For my bridesmaids I made a little box up for each of them which had a silk robe, chocolates, their jewellery for the day, a little bottle of champagne and a champagne glass with their names engraved in them.

For the groomsmen, Gary bought them a beer glass with their names engraved and a bottle opener. He also bought a very nice bottle of scotch for them all to share when getting ready (dangerous I know).

We had a rustic themed wedding so I went with native flowers in my bouquet, they were beautiful and exactly what I had envisioned. We didn’t really need many flowers to decorate the event as Chandeliers on Abbey is so beautiful and surrounded by greenery and flowers, which was more than enough.

Structure & timing of the day for the ceremony: The girls arrived at my chalet at 8am to start getting ready and the boys all gathered at another chalet at around 9am to have brekkie and carry on. The ladies from hair and makeup arrived at 8am and from there we just all took it in turns to get our hair and make up done while enjoying a glass of bubbly and a grazing plate.

Pete, the photographer, arrived at 10:30am and started taking some “getting ready” photos of both the girls and boys. Our ceremony was at 2:15pm so we sent the guys down at 1:30pm to greet the guests and get everyone into place. Our ceremony commenced just after 2:15pm and went for around 30 mins.

Our celebrant Anita knew we wanted quite a casual light-hearted ceremony so she delivered it in such a way where we all were able to share some laughs and even a few tears. I was so proud of myself for holding back the tears the whole ceremony until Anita read out a piece called “3 things” where Gary and I had to give her 3 things that we love most about one another. This was such a lovely idea, which really personalized the ceremony and had most of us (well me anyway) in tears.

We then did a group photo, then family photos and then we gathered up the bridal party and took off to get our photos done at a few different locations, the photos you see below are from Millbrook Yallingup. We were away for just under 3hrs getting our photos done, then returned, had some food, cut the cake, had a couple of casual speeches, then first dance and we were all packed up by midnight.

We had a DIY photobooth and the caterers started serving food soon after we left for photos. The bar was open straight after the ceremony so everyone just enjoyed a drink and some food and stood around chatting.

We didn’t do much decorating as Chandeliers speaks for itself but we did put up some photos and made little centerpieces for the few tall tables we had. The centerpieces were a round slice of wood, a white lantern and a rustic jar with baby’s breath in it.

We had a very casual reception with only a couple of informal speeches and a first dance. Gary and I aren’t the greatest dancers and had said for everyone to join in after about a minute of us dancing, but everyone thought it would be funnier to leave us up there dancing alone so we had to get a bit creative with our dance moves.

Advice for other brides planning their wedding or anything different you would have done differently? The one thing that I wish we would of done was hire a videographer. There are so many nerves and emotions during the ceremony that it can be a bit of a blur, so would of loved for that to of been filmed.

A few words about your photographer? We wouldn’t even know where to start with Pete. He is amazing at what he does and is just such a lovely person who will go out of his way to make you happy. His work speaks for itself and we could not be happier with our wedding photos. If anyone is looking for a local photographer who is really going to capture the emotions of your day and share a bit of a laugh, we would highly recommend Pete Battye from Real Image Photography.
