Interview with the Bride
We were engaged for just over two years. For our wedding day we spent approx $15,000 that which included 76 guests. Some of our family members ended up paying for some things even though we didn’t arrange that at the start. We also hand made many things like the bouquets, cake and decorations so we could spend on things that would help us remember the best day of our lives e.g. photographer and videographer.
I loved my wedding dress because it sparkled underneath the top layer of tule when I moved. The back was also what sold me with crystal buttons in the shear back. It also fitted like a glove after the alterations.
We chose Evedon Park as Blairs one idea was to get married near water and I didn’t want the ocean and this was the best place with accommodation for us and guests and it was in the bush. Blair and I love the outdoors.
Our day was very relaxed, we all knew the times of things starting but if they didn’t run on time Blair and I weren’t fussed at all. I was running a bit late due to my makeup artist having to do more then just the bridal parties makeup e.g. Mother of the Bride and Mother of the Groom and Nana of the Groom and Sister of the Groom.
Our celebrant was able to bring the humour that Blair and I have in our relationship, Lynette brought out the best bits out in the way she spoke and the stories we shared with her that she shared with all our guests. My father isn’t alive to walk me down the aisle (he passed away from cancer when I was 14) so my Aunty Ruth (dads sister) gave me away to Blair (there was a bit of conflict as my mother wanted to but I really wanted it to be my Aunty) it felt perfect though and I wouldn’t change it at all. I also had a poem reading during the ceremony so my Mother could feel more involved in the ceremony. It was a piece we chose from the ones she gave me and it was perfect for the time and place of our wedding.
The ceremony area is right next to the function centre at Evedon Park, so after the ceremony our guests stayed on to enjoy nibbles that got passed around and if they wanted drinks at the bar it was at their own expense. It was such a nice day that guests could either chill inside or outside. Some guests even went back to their rooms before the reception to rest as there is accommodation on site.
For our bridal party we bought lovely gifts - bridesmaids personalised tote bags, purses, compact mirror, cute water bottle and the groomsmen - personalised beer pint glasses.
Why chose to have our wedding at Evedon Park in the Ferguson Valley, because we fell in love with the place once we visited it for the first time. Once we saw it we pretty much didn’t look at other venues it was exactly what we wanted and just around the corner from where we live. We wanted all the guests to have the choice to stay the night and we also wanted the reception and ceremony at the same venue to avoid people having to drive and get lost when getting to the next venue. We basically wanted it as simple as possible and convenient for our friends and family.
What happened at your reception? I play classical violin and have since I was 5 years old. When Blair found out when we started dating his first question was “Can you play ACDC Thunderstruck?” of course my answer was NOO and I was horrified that he would even ask. So after we got engaged I started to learn the song on my violin and played a snippet at the ceremony during speeches. He was so speechless and impressed it was the best present I could of given him.
We didn’t rehearse our first dance, that just isn’t us and it was the best time we had on the dance floor. My Maid of Honour gave the best speech about getting to know me through working together (thats how we became best friends) around the time I met Blair and it ended up making me cry. My inlaws gave a beautiful speech and accepted me into their family even though we had been dating for almost 8 years by the time we tied the knot, but the speech was absolutely amazing. My mother gave a lovely speech about my life growing up and then accepting Blair into our family which was nice to hear as well. The Best man gave a short and sweet speech that was to the point but very funny.
Advice for others planning a wedding: I have thought about this after our wedding when asked by other people. I wouldn’t do anything differently for our day. It wouldn’t of been our wedding then. When things went a little pear shaped we just accepted it and moved on, Blair and I just wanted to concentrate on celebrating our day together and not letting anything get us down.
I would recommend brides to do what they want to do for their wedding, not what family members or friends request or suggest. It is their day and the only other person who matters is your future husband. Also not stressing when things go wrong. Always have a plan B and C and if its not perfect.
just remember most grooms find it overwhelming and are not sure of all the decisions to make for wedding day preparations. To make my life and Blairs life easier I did most of the research for everything (venues, photographers, videographers, celebrants, cake etc) discussed what we were after for a wedding (Casual and Fun) before the research then narrowed the choices to 3 or 4. Then brought him in on my choices and asked his opinion. We then would talk and make the decision together. Thats how we came up with our memorable day.
A few words about your photographer? Pete was the perfect photographer for our wedding, we wanted a relaxed atmosphere for friends and family. When Blair’s mother and I first saw his photographs we fell in love and with then. When Blair said he liked them I set up a meeting before booking Pete. He was very professional and instantly put us at ease with our first meeting. He was pretty much hired on the spot. We had met one other photographer before him and Blair just didn’t like their personality so when he said he liked Pete I knew we had a winner. He worked extremely well with the videographer we hired as I was a bit worried the two might clash (just with work professions not personalities). He also fit in well with our bridal party whom are all a bit quirky and were up for any pictures Pete asked to take. We couldn’t rate him high enough, 10 out of 10 just doesn’t do the work he does justice.
