Wedding Ceremony & Reception: "Kildare" Farm Wilga WA
We took 18 months to plan owe wedding day and spent approx $25,000 with our ceremony at the family farm and hired the Noggerup Hall.
We had 130 guests and no children (except flower girls at the ceremony.
We bought the dresses, shirts & bouquets/button holes for our wedding party.
I went to one shop, tried on 2 dresses but i have fallen in love wth the first one. We bought it that day, 10 months before the wedding. My Aunty customised my dress to show off my cowboys boots, I loved this look. I also loved the fit I honestly could have worn my dress for a lot longer than I did.
I'm the sort of person who can take an hour to pick up bread and milk from the shops. I'll get caught chatting to an old friend and loose track of time. Knowing this I asked my photographer to give me strict time frames for getting ready, arriving at the ceremony & the family photos. This worked really well for us because on the day we didn't have to explain what we were doing to everyone, Jo had everyone sorted.
Our ceremony was in the Hay dome on the Grooms Family Farm.. We had originally picked a location in the paddock but decided to change to the dome so that it didnt matter what the weather was doing.
Our celebrant Laurissa Knowles has had a wonderful relationship with both Dennis and myself for a few years now. She was the officiant at my Mums funeral in 2008 and first met Dennis at my Nans funeral 3 year ago. Before our wedding we were so lucky to be able to sit down with Laurissa and talk through our story, share the funny stories and talk about the tough times. Laurissa made the ceremony perfect because she knew us, she knew our story and she took the time to get it right for us.
We had planned to have our dog, Beryl, as our ring bearer. She was trained to jump on hay bales and was going to bring the rings in and sit up on the hay bale next to us. Unfortunately Beryl passed away very quickly and unexpectedly in August so we decided to still give her the job. We had her collar, with the rings attached, and photo set up on the hay bale just as she would have been.
Dennis is a boilermaker and I call him Mr Steel so we wanted to include that in our decorations, we used rusty objects which we collected from the Brides Granparents farm and the Grooms Family Farm on our tables to symbolise the families joining together. We also used a lot of wood, hessian and lace as we loved the natural feel. We bought a few bits and pieces off Ebay but most of the decorations were homemade or found around the farm.
We had a lot happening at our reception. We chose songs for our bridal party to enter the reception, we didn't tell them what the song was or why we chose it but when it played they looked at us, laughed and said "Ahh this one" or "Thats my song right".
Our MC was amazing, she wrote a little blurb for each bridal party member, She also made sure the whole night went smoothly. The Bridesmaid, Best Man and Father of the brides speeches were outstanding. Each person had their own style and managed to tell a wonderful story of our lives.
Our DJ had the perfect mix of music and we had people on the dance floor the whole night.
My best advice would be make it meaningful, don't do anything just because you saw it on Pinterest.
Also some advice I was given that was awesome was to sit back, take a breath and look around. Take some time at both your ceremony and reception to just look around and take it all in.
