Interview with the Bride
We actually were going to have a surprise wedding, but it didn’t really work out that way!
We got engaged July 2015 and did not tell a soul until we had finished planning the whole wedding, we then sent out wedding invites in March 2016, hopped on a plane to Bali and flew away while everyone received their invites in the mail.
SURPRISE! We’re engaged and getting married. HAHA !
We spent $25000 all up including everything. We invited 70 guests and no children.
The element I loved the most about my wedding dress was the lace! I loved the long lace that swept along the ground.
I started looking in September 2015, it was purchased soon after. It was the first dress that I saw and tried on, followed by 20 other dresses in Perth and Bunbury . . . . but I kept coming back to that one dress!
Jeff wore grey pants, vest and bow tie with an off-white, almost cream, shirt to match my dress and brown shoes.
Everything went perfectly and all on time. We did our photos during the day before our ceremony so that there was no big gap between the ceremony and reception - it was great.
We did not have a bridal party! We think everyone should do it this way.. So much easier and less stress for everyone.
All your friends are going to be there for your big day anyway.
At the ceremony, we had a photo frame next to our archway with loved ones who had passed on, grandparents mainly but also my cousin who we lost only 3 short weeks before the wedding.
Our celebrant, Robin, was such a beautiful soul. She actually knows us very well as she if a friend and my personal counsellor. She knows us inside and out, so she knew exactly how we wanted our ceremony. We also wrote our own vows.
As we had decided to have our photos BEFORE the ceremony - there was no gap between the ceremony and the reception! It was the best thing ever! We think every couple should do it :)
We didn’t have a set theme or colour, so I went with all different types of fresh bright bold colours for my bouquet and the same for each table at the reception. We had a simple but elegant theme with lots of fresh bold flowers. All masterfully decorated by Jodi, from Rustic Poppy.
We chose our reception venue, as we had been going to dinner there a lot over the months, and one day just said "Let’s get married here".
We didn’t even look anywhere else :)
We loved how beautiful the reception looked, how raw and rustic it is while still being modern. We also love how it is on the water and so close to town.
Me and my dad actually had a dance all ready to go but I got so nervous about it that I said we aren't doing it we are just going to dance normal. He was so disappointed as he had been practicing.
I also love how all Jeff mates came together, they got into a group and sung their hearts out to their fave song.
Do you have any advice for other brides planning their wedding or anything different you would have done differently?
Just be cool and calm. It is not stressful unless you make it stressful! Simple is the key!
Where did you go on your honeymoon?
My brother Brendon purchased 2 nights for us in Pemberton at a small cottage called Mudstone Spa Retreat. It was a beautiful location in the middle of the bush down an old gravel road, it was just amazing and serene.
