Interview with the Bride
For the Groomsmen and Fathers we had drink ware sets from Giftware Direct which had a personlised hip flask, glass and other accessories. For the Bridesmaids and Mothers Jacinta made gift boxes of personlised champagne flutes, pyjamas and slippers to get ready in, as well as a lipstick for the day.
We were engaged for 2 years and 8 months before the wedding, and spent about the last 18 months of that slowly planning our wedding day. We didn’t have a set budget, but did keep in mind the price of vendors and searched for the best value for what we were after. In the end the ceremony & reception together cost around $26,000 with 65 guests.
We invited all children to the ceremony, but did ask that only children of the bridal party and interstate guests attend the reception. The kids mostly kept to themselves entertained with lots of food & dancing and were never short of attention, which they loved!
I had been looking at different designers online every now and then since we got engaged, but didn’t go shopping until 11 months before the wedding.
Everything about my dress was loved the most. It was the most perfect dress I could have ever dreamed of. When choosing the dress I went to one shop, Bridal by Aubrey Rose, and first tried on 4 dresses that I picked out.
When none of those were quite right, I asked the assistant, if she had anything in mind for me. Before she even had the dress fully off the rack I had the “that’s the one” moment. It stopped me in mid conversation, which anyone that knows me finds it hard to believe something made me speechless! As soon as I put the dress on, it was MY dress.
We wanted to keep the ceremony location local in Bunbury, the Marlston Hill Lookout has this garden with a beautiful view overlooking Koombana Bay and the Harbour.
We had the ceremony set to start at 3:30PM, but I ended up being 20 minutes late!
We wrote our own vows to each other and had our 3-year-old son be the ring bearer. We also included all of our nephews and niece by having them walk down the aisle with their mum's (also the bridesmaids!)
Our celebrant Erin had us each fill out a questionnaire about our favourite qualities of each other and what we dream of for the future together. She then incorporated this in to the ceremony and it was really lovely to hear that we said nearly the exact same things about each other!
After the ceremony we had some group photos on location and post ceremony drinks. We then had a bus transfer our guests to the reception at 5PM while the bridal party had photos. We had a grazing table for guests to nibble on before dinner was served. Unfortunately, we have no idea what that grazing table looked like because it was happily devoured before we got there! We heard it was amazing though.
We LOVED Ayzia our photographer. She made us feel so relaxed, which was really important because neither of us like having our photos taken. We love her style of photography and couldn’t be happier with the photos we now have forever.
We chose the reception location because it is a special place for Jacinta being her family home. It helps that the garden is beautiful and perfectly set up for entertaining. Having the reception at Jacinta’s parents also allowed us to set everything up in our own time in the days leading up to the wedding, rather than having to rush it all the day before or morning of. We were able to have it exactly how we wanted with no restrictions.
To keep it relaxed, we didn’t have set seating and instead chose for occasional pieces and bar furniture. We had the If by Chance Traveling Bar serving drinks that suited our style perfectly. We spent a couple days stringing hundreds and hundreds of metres of fairy lights through the trees, marquee and pergola.
We didn’t want to do anything really traditional on our wedding day. We walked straight into our first dance, and other than that and a couple speeches, we just mingled and had a good night with our guests.
The day after our wedding, we went straight to Mauritius by ourselves and spent a week there exploring the island and relaxing. We flew back to Perth for half a day before flying out to Bali with our son and spent a week as a family.
My advice to others: Plan the wedding that you want and will make you happy as a couple. Try not to worry what other people will think or about trying to make others happy.
