Interview with the Bride

When did you realise that you had meet your mister right?
When we talked hypothetically one day about not being together and realised we would both be devastated if were weren't together.

Why did you decide on having an outdoor wedding and what location did you choose?
Both Adam and I love Caves House in Yallingup. Our first trip away together was to Yallingup, so it has special meaning to us.

What do you think was the hardest part to plan for your wedding?
I was quite ill for the first quarter of 2012, having my gallbladder removed in late February.

Was there a budget for your wedding and were you able to stick to it?
We didn’t have a budget, but as Adam and I paid for the wedding ourselves we knew what we were spending and why e.g. spending money on those elements we thought were really important in making our day special.

How did you decide how many people to invite to your wedding?
We simply asked all the people we really wanted to be there, those people that we love and respect and that is how the number of attendees was determined.

Did you find it hard to find your perfect wedding dress and what made you choose this dress colour?
I couldn't find a ready made dress that I loved, so I combined a Charlie Brown dress with French vintage lace. I had an amazing dress maker which helps.

How did you decide on what flowers to have in your bouquet?
I knew I really wanted white roses and freesia's and took advice from Joyce from JVK Floral Designs on the rest.

Choices of music throughout the day ceremony song, bridal waltz and what was your choice of entertainment e.g live band or DJ?
Our DJ was Mandy B, she was amazing and did a fantastic job of incorporating all our favourite songs, while still managing to get everyone (including my Gran) up on the dance floor to dance. I couldn't recommend Mandy B highly enough. We had a range of songs at the ceremony including Bob Marley’s ‘Is this Love’ and Dave Dobbyn’s ‘Slice of Heaven’. Our bridal waltz was Etta James’s ‘At Last’.

Share details about the running of the day what time did you start preparing etc.
I started getting ready at 11am, with hair and makeup arriving. I got ready with my Mum ‘Phyllis’, my Gran ‘Emily’, Adam’s Mum ‘Sue’ and Adam’s sister ‘Bec’. I arranged for the five of us to get our hair and makeup done together, as I wanted them to feel special and beautiful. I didn't have formal bridesmaids, but they were all there for me on the day and all wore unique outfits. Adam started getting ready a bit later, 1pm with his dad ‘Joe, my brother ‘Ben’, Adam’s brother in law ‘Brett’ and Adam’s nephews ‘Angus’ (aged 6) and ‘Archie’ (aged 2).

What personal touches did you add to make your Wedding day more personal?
My brother ‘Ben’ was the Master of Ceremonies and did a wonderful job. Adam’s nephew ‘Angus’ was our ring bearer and concentrated so hard on the task, holding the crystal bowl (containing the rings) so tightly during the ceremony!

What sort of vows did you say to one another, traditional or did you write your own?
We wrote our own vows, we tried to make them true to us, in that they reflected our personalities and the way we love and respect each other.

How did you decorate your wedding venue? Overall theme – colours white, navy blue and silver. White chair covers, table clothes, navy blue chair ties (provided by JVK Floral Designs), glass fishbowls on the tables filled with white flowers, tea light candles and glass holders (selected by my Mum ‘Phyllis’), bevelled circular mirrors on the tables (provided by JVK Floral Designs).

Describe how your reception went, what happened, toasts, dancing, any funny or meaningful stories?
The reception was great fun, everyone ate, drank and got merry! The speeches given by Adam’s parents ‘Joe and Sue’, my Mum ‘Phyllis’ and my brother ‘Ben’ made everyone cry, as they were heartfelt and full of love.

How did you capture special moment's during the reception?
Pete our photographer took some amazing great photos.

What style of meal did you decide on for your reception and how did you decide what your menu was?
For entrees, we opted for a cocktail style approach with all our guests interacting and waling around in the drawing room at Caves House and then for our mains we had an alternate drop of fish and lamb served at the guests tables within the Yallingup Room. Dessert was also served to the tables, we have pavlova roulade with berry coulis.

What style, flavour and look were you going for with your wedding cake, plus where there any other desserts that were served?
We wanted to go with cupcakes so everyone got their own cake. The colours of the cupcakes, were consistent with our overall colour scheme of white, navy blue and silver.

Describe what your best moment of your wedding day was?
Seeing everyone’s faces when I walked into the Emily Rose Terrace. Also when Adam and I were waiting to make an entrance to the Yallingup Room and we were both super excited.

How has married life treated you both so far?
It is pretty much the same as before we were married (as we have been together for nearly 8 years) but now we wear rings!
Where did you guys decide to go on honeymoon?
We went to the USA for three and a half weeks. First stop Hawaii (North Shore) staying at Turtle Cove, where we swam with the turtles. Then on to San Francisco, where we walked up and down the massive hills until we were exhausted! Then Las Vegas where we met up with our friends Fran, Simon, Christine, Sam, Andrew and Liam. We also saw Jerry Seinfeld live! Then back to Hawaii staying in Honolulu, drank too many Mai Tais and swam every day.
When look back on your wedding day would you have done anything differently on the day?
No, I was happy with everything and grateful to the people that made our day so special.
Is there anyone you would like to thank or special mentions....
We would like to thank everyone that made the effort to travel to Yallingup to share our wedding day, we really appreciated it and it is a memory that will stay with us forever.
