Interview with the Bride
How did you meet?
We are from Bunbury. We met in 2007 when Colin and I worked together. We started dating a few months after we met and have been crazy about each other ever since.
Why did you choose to get married in the Southwest region?
Because it is quiet and so relaxed and peaceful in Yallingup and we fell in love with the gardens.
Who helped you to plan your wedding?
Colin and I planned our entire wedding ourselves as we wanted to make our decisions together, as that's half the fun about planning a wedding.
It gave us pride in the fact that our wedding was so perfect and we can say 'we did that'.
What was the theme & colour scheme for your wedding?
Colour scheme was blue and white.
What was the hardest part to plan for your wedding?
To be honest we didn't find anything hard because we had a 21 month engagement and we planned out what task we were going to complete each month, which made everything a lot easier to complete because it helped us stay in control.
Did you have a budget and did you stick to it?
Half and Half, We did shop around a lot to get a better idea of what we wanted, and to help us make a budget, but we also indulged a bit on things that we both agreed would suit us better .
Was there one thing that you were not going to compromise on for your wedding?
No. We both agreed on all decisions made for our wedding and no compromising was done at all.
What gifts did you give to your bridesmaids & groomsmen?
The Bridesmaids got 'Bridesmaid' robes with their names embroided on the front, and also custom made glasses. The groomsmen received custom made beer steins with their names on them.
How many guests did you have at your wedding?
When did you start looking for your wedding dress?
A few months after we got engaged. But I finally brought my dress one year before the wedding.
What flowers did you carry?
Artificial white and blue roses.
How did you spend your last night being single?
The bride and bridesmaids spent the night before the wedding at 'Adamsons Riverside Apartments' in Margaret River. We had a few drinks and a meal at the local pub and just had a fun relaxing night together. The Groom and groomsmen spent the night before at Caves House, they stuck around, had dinner and a few drinks.
Details about your ceremony.
The ceremony was set up simple but elegant. We had a 'love letter' ceremony where Colin and I individually wrote letters to each other to put in our 'love letter box' which contains 2 beautiful glasses and a bottle of wine, along with our letters to each other. The aim of it is to open it together on your 10 year anniversary, drink the wine and read the letters to one another.
Did you say traditional vows to one another or write your own?
We wrote our own as we wanted them to be more personal and said from the heart.
What did your guests do after your ceremony while your wedding party went for wedding photos?
They all did their own thing as we were gone for 3 hours, some stuck around at Caves House and walked around the beautiful gardens and caught up with people they haven't seen in years. Others went for a drive to the beach and done a little bit of exploring. The pre-dinner drinks and canapés started at 6 so that's when everyone came back together and started the party.
Why did you choose your particular wedding venue?
The exact spot where we stood under the gazebo at our ceremony is where Colin proposed to me on Valentine's day of 2012, so we chose this spot to get married because it already meant so much to us.
How did you decorate your wedding venue?
Our reception had 6 round guest tables which had 3 vases on them filled with blue pebbles, a rose in one and floating candles which they sat on top of a round mirror. Bridal table was a long tresell table decorated with scattered crystals and 4 round bowls for the bridesmaids bouquets to sit in, we also had a 'Nel (heart)Colin sign in front of us. We had the dance floor in the middle and the cake stand up the back next to the gift table. Dreamweaver celebrations was our wedding decorator. Sherry was great in helping us plan out our ideas for decorating our venue. The venue looked absolutely beautiful.
What happened at your reception?
We had a great bridal party entrance into our reception. Firstly, the Bridesmaids busted in dancing to 'Barbie girl by Aqua' followed by the groomsmen busting in to 'im too sexy' by right said Fred, Then Colin and I done a surprise entrance to 'the only thing that looks good on me' by Brian Adams, where Colin entered the room first unbuttoning his jacket, I followed and ripped his jacket off from behind him, we danced around
each other for a bit, then I threw his jacket back and we sat down. Everyone said that we started the life in the party. It was so fun.
Peter Adams 'DJ harmony' was our DJ, who was incredible at mixing up the music to suit all our guests from younger to older generation music.
We had a square 2 tier white chocolate mud with chocolate ganache filling, finished with traditional white fondant- the bottom tier quilted with diamonte's. A string of blue ribbon and diamonte's around the base of each tier and a matching heart cake topper.
When you look back on your wedding day what would you have done differently on the day?
Absolutely nothing. It was the best day of our lives and we were so blessed for everything to have run so smoothly with no dramas.
Do you have any advice for other brides planning their wedding?
Just to have fun with it, honestly there should not be one thing that you need to stress over because at the end of the day, the reason for it all is to marry your best friend, the love of your life. As long as you have each other, that is all that matters. The more relaxed you are, the better the day will be and the memory of it all is incredibly satisfying.
Best moment of your wedding day?
WOW- that is impossible to narrow down because the entire day was amazing. The entire day was the best moment of our life.
