Interview with the Bride
Marriage is like.. finding your other half that completes you. We really do bring out the best in each other, and I can't imagine my life without him.
What did the groom organise?
I loved that he gave me the freedom to make most of the decisions myself, although he was involved in planning the menu and music selection!
What was the best buy for your wedding day?
I didn't really shop around to get any bargains – my favourite purchase would have to be my dress, although I did LOVE my stationary! I spent a little more on my invitations than I had planned to, but once my mind was set there was no talking me out of it.
What was your wedding day style?
I decided on very simple styling – using a black, white and ivory colour palette for the attire, decorations and stationary. The only splash of colour was Milan's red tie, which looked fantastic!
The most important part of your wedding day?
The most important part of my wedding day was the ceremony – at the end of the day, the reception is just a big party! It's the ceremony that matters and ours was everything I could have wished for and more!
What elements did you make for your wedding day?
I assembled the gift bags purchased from Pink Frosting and filled them with black and white lolly pops to suit our colour scheme. Aside from that, I was a little time poor so invested in the help of a decorator and organized my invitations fully assembled, so it was a matter of sticking on a stamp and putting them in the post!
When did you start looking for your wedding dress?
I had started browsing online within weeks of getting engaged, although I didn't start looking in the boutiques until about 12 months prior to our wedding.
What was it about your wedding dress you liked the most?
The dress I chose was nothing like I had pictured myself wearing, but the moment I tried it on I felt like a princess! I absolutely loved the crystallized beading on the bodice, the silk skirt and drop waist design!
How many guests did you have at your wedding?
Any drama's on the day?
Surprisingly – we didn't have any drama's on the day!
What were the flowers in your bouquet?
My bouquet was made up of ivory roses, completed with ivory ribbon and pearl pins.
Details about your ceremony?
Our ceremony was very intimate, set on the island across from the venue overlooking the water. My dad walked me down the aisle to a beautiful acoustic instrumental song and I was followed by 3 gorgeous little flower girls. I was quite nervous as we started walking over the bridge, but my nerves were calmed the moment I saw Milan standing at the end waiting for me with the biggest smile on his face! We used traditional vows, as we both knew that if we wrote them ourselves we would be too emotional to get through them on the day – everything was just perfect!
What did your guests do after your ceremony while you and your wedding party went for wedding photos?
Our guests stayed at the venue in the beer garden and were served beer, champagne, wine and the most amazing canapés!
Why did you choose your particular wedding venue?
I had always wanted to get married in the Dunsborough/ Margaret River Wine Region and the Duckstein had the whole package – amazing food and drink, service and a beautiful setting for both a ceremony and reception!
How did you decorate your wedding venue?
The venue required very little decorations – I had rectangle tables, with white table cloths and black chair sashes. On the tables I had beautiful tall candelabras and 2 x glass rectangle vases filled with ivory roses and white peonies.
First dance song?
All I Want is You by U2.
What happened at your reception?
We entered our reception and surprised our guests by going straight into our first dance – once we finished our dance, all of our guests were invited onto the dance floor! My dad, Milan's mum and the groomsman did a speech and we finished it off with Milan and I doing a speech each. Milan's speech was quite emotional and had most of our guests in tears by the end of it. There was plenty of dancing throughout the night, including the 'Kolo' which is a European dance our guests enjoyed trying. One of the memorable funny moments was when one of our guests helped himself behind the bar and skulled from the beer tap – only a few were lucky enough to witness it, but it certainly provided some laughs!
Did you feel like your wedding day just flew by?
Absolutely, it was over so quickly! I wish I could re-live it all again...
Do you have any advice for other brides planning their wedding?
Just enjoy it – be organized and have fun! It is all over before you know it .
I would like to thank....
Our parents, friends and family, Duckstein Brewery and their staff, Sarah and the team at Henderson Photographics, Wez Enterprises, Catherine DeCastro Makeup Artist and Jennifer Burrows for giving us such an amazing day!
Did you use Coast to Country Weddings to help plan your day?
Absolutely - planning a wedding in the Margaret River Winery region from Perth would have been difficult, had it not have been for all of the supplier details and wedding services available on the website! There is so much information available, it was so helpful when deciding on my suppliers and ensuring nothing was forgotten.
