Bobby-Jo and John's Pemberton Wedding
Interview with the Bride
The ceremony location is on the property of close family friends of John's and from the start of the relationship had said that that was where he always wanted to get married.
Where children invited to your wedding and if so how did you keep them entertained?
We wouldn't have had a wedding without them! For the older children (6-15) we had a 'kids table' We were lucky enough that they were of similar age groups & interests. They were kept entertained with disposable cameras and their own electronics (kids today!) the younger children (under 5) sat with parents and kept themselves amused by dancing or going and visiting everyone. We didn't hear a peep from any of them.
What was the structure & timing of the day like for the ceremony and reception?
The ceremony started at 3pm and pre-dinner drinks started at 6 with the reception starting at 6.30pm. We didn't feel like the day was rushed at all and had plenty of time between the ceremony & reception for drinks & to put our feet up for a quick breather before heading to the reception.
How many guests did you have at your wedding?
What were the flowers in your bouquet and why did you choose those ones?
Originally I had chosen David Austin roses as I love their soft look. Unfortunately the florist couldn't get them in at the time of the wedding so I left it up to the florist to decide what to make. The bouquet was made with white hothouse roses.
When did you start looking for your wedding dress?
I purchased my dress in August. I only went to The Gown Gallery in Midland as my bridesmaid had got her gown there 5 years prior - the service was great & they had picked the perfect dress (and not one we even liked off the rack). After being a bridesmaid for 3 other weddings & traipsing through numerous bridal shops, I only wanted to go to 1 and have it sorted – which I luckily did!
What was it about your wedding dress you liked the most?
I couldn't put my finger on 1 thing – after trying on other dresses that I liked/envisaged myself wearing I couldn't find 'the one'. I tried on this 'mere' dress that the sales lady suggested & when I looked in the mirror I just cried when I saw myself in it. It was just all over perfect, for me. I love each and every bit of my dress & felt like a princess in it.
Were there any other ways in which family & friends contributed to the day?
Johns niece Jayme (16) was his driver. Bobby-Jo's bridesmaids daughter Taylah (10) did a reading & her son Samuel (12) was our ring bearer.
What did your guests do after your ceremony while you and your wedding party went for wedding photos?
Quite a few guests went to the Gateway Motel for a 'few' drinks before heading to the Town Hall for pre-dinner drinks. Others caught up with family members that they hadn't seen for some time.
How did you decorate your ceremony and reception, to suit your theme?
We decided from the get-go that we were getting a decorator in to help us as we have very limited decorating skills/ideas. After troweling the internet we decided to speak to Wez Enterprises. They were extremely helpful and after a visit to an expo they were holding we were able to pick out what we wanted for our reception.
What happened at your reception?
Our MC, Tiny Holly (Have Gavel, Will Travel) is a close friend and also a professional auctioneer & MC. There isn't a guest who would say they wouldn't want him to MC for their next function – he was hilarious, entertaining & seriously out of control! He had sat down with us a few weeks before the wedding and 'researched' our bridal party & guests and used every weapon in his arsenal to include everyone in his MC'ing. We performed 4 traditional Macedonian dances (sprung on the bride 2 minutes before the dancing started) and all the 'oldies' got up to dance – it was amazing to see 80 year olds dance around as if they were 20.
Is there anything you would do differently if you could have your wedding again?
Elope! But other than that, no. We had found such fabulous people to help with the wedding i.e photographer, decorator, DJ, caterer etc & I had knuckled down & got everything organised early so it all went really smoothly.
