Susannah and Keaton's Winery Wedding
Interview with the Bride
We had about 15 months to plan the wedding. We didn't really have a budget- its hard to know how much to budget before you know how much things cost! But we made every effort to keep the costs down and made sensible decisions. We also got a lot of friends and family on board to help out which not only helps keep costs down but makes the planning and the actual day so much more personal and enjoyable! After we crunched all the numbers, we thought we did quite well as far as budgets go.

We also got a lot of friends and family on board to help out which not only helps keep costs down but makes the planning and the actual day so much more personal and enjoyable! After we crunched all the numbers, we thought we did quite well as far as budgets go. But like I said, we made sensible decisions about what was important and what might be excessive, as it is so easy to go over the top on a wedding.
Keaton was also very helpful organising. He is actually is a better planner and organiser than I am, but was happy to let me plan the wedding. But when I asked him to help out he did with no questions and was very efficient!
We had 70 guests including bridal party and our parents. We chose Wise for a few reasons, my family had been going there for years for special lunches. Keaton's friend was the wedding manager, the location and view is spectacular, its proximity to fabulous photo locations, the food is great and wine is yummy!
We had to work in with the restaurant and their closing time for lunch, so we had a later reception at 4pm. While family and bridal party were having photos, guests mingled on the lawn with sushi from Peko Peko and drinks while they played lawn games. We aimed to have the reception start for 6pm, but I think by the time we got back from photos it was closer to 6:30.
Our reception was cocktail style with plenty of seating options from couches, to bar tables, alfresco benches and some tables and chairs. It was a great way to keep the evening relaxed, for people to mingle, and for the party to get happening! It also helps keep the cost down.
My grandma making he cake (which we have kept), my mum played a HUGE role in helping plan and organise the wedding. She had lots of great ideas and was happy to organise things, while at the same time not being too pushy or over bearing. We had a lot of fun! She also made the ring cushion, and my dad made our cake stand, my brother and his partner helped decorate, as I mentioned, Keaton's friend was our DJ, and a friend made our other cakes.
My advice would be to trust your suppliers also make sure you can communicate well with the wedding manager as you will have endless questions to ask them- which leads me to my next advice- make sure you write lots of lists and spreadsheets etc. I'm not normally super organised, and these really helped me cope with the amount of thinking that's involved- even if you only have a small wedding. But ultimately its your and your husband's day, so don't do anything you don't really feel you have to e.g. if you feel bonbonnieres are a useless tradition- don't do them!!
