Interview with the Bride
We got engaged on 23 March 2013 after a beautiful day in Margaret River where we were lucky enough to get a helicopter ride to our lunch destination, Voyager Estate. We started planning soon after – especially to see if we could enjoy our special day at Voyager to share with all our family and friends.
I had a selection of blooms including David Austin roses and dusty miller. I loved the pastel tones and wanted to fit in the peach colours with the bridesmaids' and flower girls' dresses.
I started browsing wedding magazines after we were engaged and I fell in love with a picture of a dress. It was the first dress I tried on (in a bridal shop next door to my home!) and that was that. One of the easier wedding decisions! I love the idea of celebrating the female shape, so the silhouette of the dress was what attracted me. to it.
Our marriage ceremony was at 2:30pm (we just missed the morning rain!) and the guests had a break afterwards while we had photos. Guests were transported by bus to the courtyard of Voyager to enjoy pre dinner canapés at 6:30pm.
We read out our own personalized vows and each had a special promise (for him to support my football team and for me to try to be on time). We also had two readings including one that was written especially for us and read out by my brother.ch, pinks, ivory, pastels and a touch of gold. We were lucky to have a fantastic venue and such amazing natural surroundings, so the whole day had a very lavish feel to it without too much effort.
We love the food, wine, service, gardens and ambience of Voyager Estate. It was also special to us as it was a memorable part of the day we got engaged.
We had our flower girls attend the reception and they were entertained with home made colouring books with a wedding theme.
We had a significant gap between our ceremony and reception to allow us to travel to Gracetown and Prevelly for some special photos, so guests made their own way to the ceremony and were ferried back by a bus for the reception. In the interim our guests were encouraged to explore the beautiful gardens of Voyager Estate and to check out the tasting room to sample some beautiful wine.
We had a number of speeches and toasts a special mention would go to the best man who had to step up at the last minute when the groom's best friend was hospitalized the night before the wedding. We had our bridal waltz choreographed for us by a work colleague and pulled off some of the more difficult moves without a hitch.
We were so lucky to have family and friends to help us as we were organizing our wedding from Melbourne. We had family members and friends collecting our supplies (including flowers, drinks, candles), helping us with DIY projects (programs, table numbers, bonbonnieres, signage) and lots of help on the day (setting up fairy lights, driving our bridal party around, performing readings), we couldn't have done it on our own! It was also amazing that my hairdresser flew over from Melbourne when I couldn't secure a local supplier, she did an amazing job!
Advice for other brides:
Enjoy the process and don't be afraid to ask for help. Stay true to the things that are important to you and don't sweat the small stuff because there are always likely to be compromises!
Would have done differently if you could have your wedding again?
We would try harder to stick to our timing schedule and wish we could have had some special people there who couldn't make it. But really it was a perfect day, even though not quite to plan.
We delayed our honeymoon to be able to enjoy the European summer, where were lucky to visit a number of different places including the coast of Italy and the Greek Islands.
