Interview with the Bride
I started looking for my wedding dress right after we got engaged. I had decided to jump straight into planning our wedding. If I had seen my final dress choice - straight away, I would have laughed and said "No way". Its almost one that you joke about with your friends that you wouldn't be caught dead in.
Half way through my appointment, I mentioned that I didn't want to risk my perfect dress slipping by me, simply because I wasn't open-minded enough to try on ALL sorts of dress styles. So I tried on a dress that I would not have considered, and when I put it on for the first time I LOVED it. I loved the toffee coloured sash and the way it fit my tall frame (I'm 6'3 so well fitted clothes are difficult to find). Im glad I didn't laugh it off.
Originally our wedding was planned for the 28th October 2012 but was postponed due to us falling pregnant with our first born son. We rescheduled for the 16th March 2014, which we then needed to reschedule again to the 16th November due to hubby-to-be being made redundant at work. To put another spanner in the works I fell pregnant with our second son but we decided third time is the charm and was three months pregnant at our wedding. The ocean was like glass so it was the right decision and the whole day was a dream.
Our budget was approximately $20,000 and everything came within budget.
Originally we had over 100 guests when we first planned our wedding. However, when it came to planning the second time round me and my partner decided what we only wanted close family and friends there and ended up with 50 guests including children.
Phillip chose all the music for the day right down to the track that I walked down the aisle to. He is more music minded than me and he did a fantastic job.
We really wanted to get married on the beach and be away from any main towns. This way we could relax and so could our guests.
Our Ceremony was at 2:30pm so the weather would be calmer and our Reception started at 6pm and went till 12pm. The reception began as soon as we arrived at the venue, with a buffet dinner, speeches, cake and the first dance. We wanted all the formalities out of the way at the beginning so we could just relax and enjoy the evening and our guests company, and we also had guests that were driving back to Perth that night.
I didn't want all three of my bridesmaids in the same colour, so we choose multiple colours in pastel hews. Our overall colours were white, yellow, purple, pink, and leafy green. We like simplicity and I love flowers and candles, so we incorporated all these into our theme.
Our ceremony took place on the beach as we didn't want to distract from the beautiful natural scenery. We had a simple bamboo four-post arbour with white draping and flowers, for a little splash of colour.
Each of my three bridesmaids wore a different colour and each had bouquets and flowers in their hair, predominately the same colour. I had mostly white flowers in my hair and all three colours plus white in my bouquet. I also had groomsmen wear flower boutonneires with colours matching the corresponding bridesmaids.
While we were having our formal photographs taken most of our guests, who were staying at the resort, went back to their rooms to freshen up and enjoy their terraces.
Our florist did all our flowers and decorations. The overall effect was more then I could have done on my own or ever thought of. We had mainly roses and bright yellow peonies with nuts and greenery. I left it up to my florist to pick the right flowers that matched the colours I wanted.
Initially we didn't have children at the wedding besides our own son. But due to one of groomsmen not being able to come as they couldn't get a sitter we let him bring his children. Most couples were more then willing to have a weekend without kids and have 'couples time'.
We added our almost 2 yr old son into the ceremony as acknowledgement and a promise to always be a family. We also announced our pregnancy of our second child.
We had a sit down buffet dinner which all our guests said they really enjoyed. For the Reception we went with simple white linens and chair covers and ties. Then our guests tables had a 70cm mirror to reflect the light from the tealights surrounding a trough filled with different flowers in the same colour. Each guest table had a different colour theme e.g table with pink flowers, table with yellow flowers, and table with purple flowers. The Bridal table contained all three colours plus white. The ceiling and the wall behind the bridal table and dance floor had white drapes.
One of the funniest moments of the evening was when we all had a circle "dance-off", showing off our best and worst moves. Still makes me laugh thinking about it.
Advice for other brides:
Use the knowledge that your venders have. If someone has been in the business 40+ years they know what they're doing and what will work well for you. In our case all our venders improved on what we wanted and were fantastic to work with. It made wedding planning so much more enjoyable.
I loved everything about our day. The only thing I'd change is paying for a DJ, instead of paying a friend to do our music. I didn't think I'd have to mention to him that he was paid to do a job, instead he became intoxicated and started playing music he wanted to here and ignored the grooms playlist and requests. There's no quicker way to clear a dance floor then playing Pantera.
Pete from Real Image Photography was fantastic to work with. His fun personality put us at ease. I generally feel uncomfortable getting my photo taken but we were all smiling and having a great time. I was after natural fun photos and that's what we got
