Interview with the Bride
We got engaged in May 2013 so we had plenty of time to plan. Most of the planning was done in the first year then it was just gradually little bits and pieces to finish off. The day after we got engaged I said the budget was $5,000 but once I saw the price of wedding dresses etc that soon increased. We did a lot of things ourselves, my Mum ate a lot of jam in the last year so we could fill little jars with candles etc so that saved us money.Ceremony began at 3.30 to try and beat the heat (which didn't happen!) and reception started at 6pm. Steve's Mum read a poem and we created our own vows which we said to each other. My brothers played our first dance song and while people waited for the ceremony to commence. In between the ceremony and reception we had drinks, canapes and games like croquet and lawn bowls. We choose our venue because we wanted a location where no-one would have to travel and everyone could stay in the same place and make a weekend of it. It's a beautiful location, very private and quiet.
Mum bought a lot of the decorations from online sources and the Friday before the wedding the bridal party teamed together to decorate. It was low key, personal and kept with the hessian theme. My auntie made Steve a separate cake, fruit cake because that's his favourite but I didn't want that as our wedding cake.
Advice for other's planning a wedding: Don't put any pressure on yourself. It's the best day no matter how many little details or money you spend and it all goes so quickly.
