Rachael CharlieWeddingRachael & Charlie's Utterly Magical Fonty's Pool Wedding

Date: 11th March 2016
Wedding Ceremony & Reception: Fonty's Pool Manjimup

Interview with the Bride

Rachael CharlieWedding 1We got engaged on the 1st October 2014 at the most northern tip of Australia, Cape York, Queensland. We didn’t want to rush into the big day so had 18 months to prepare! In hindsight, we think 12-15 months is probably the ideal amount of time for planning.

We set ourselves a budget early, and managed to make some genuine savings by doing a lot of DIY pieces and the styling, which we love doing anyway. A huge saving was on the decorative flowers, bouquets, button holes. We purchased silk flowers and put them together ourselves. The great part is you get to keep them forever!  Our DIY efforts helped tremendously as we had 150 family and friends. This included six children who were all family.

For our attendants we bought;
Bridesmaids- floral dressing gown, rose soap and the jewellery for the day
Groomsman- cufflinks and other accessories worn on the day.

It is funny how you hear that a lot of Bride’s do the majority of the organising and prep for their weddings and in some cases ALL of the planning for the day. In our case, I would say that everything towards our day we did together.

I started looking for my bridal gown approximately 10 months before the wedding. I utterly adored walking around in it during the day because of the layers of beautiful lace.

As we made all of our floral pieces - bouquets, etc - with silk flowers I had the wonderful conundrum of oodles of flower species to select from. In the end the choices I made - lisianthus, hydrangeas, freesias, roses, carnations, lilliums, dahlias, sweet peas, stock, delphiniums, peonies - I mainly chose because of the colours. In the end, the mismatched arrangements and bouquets went perfectly with our theme for the day.

Rachael grew up in Frankland River, near Manjimup and has great memories from her childhood at Fonty’s Pool. The first time we went there together, we knew straight away that it was the ideal spot. The beautiful setting and majestic feel the location has. When we began planning our day, there were two main things we wanted - one, was to have the ceremony and reception at the same place and the second, was a relaxed and easy-going style day to reflect who we are. The team at Fonty’s Pool saw our vision straight away and were an absolute breeze to work with.

Rachael CharlieWedding 6Rachael CharlieWedding 7Rachael CharlieWedding 9Rachael CharlieWedding 11For our overall theme we went for a 'Vintage/Rustic' vibe, using a lot of wood and a LOT of ribbon and lace! We complemented the wood tones with colours of blush, champagne, cream, muted browns, and sandy colours. To set the whole colour theme and style off my Bridesmaid all wore mismatched dresses.

As part of our DIY fun we made . . .
* the wedding arch- simple arch with lace and ribbon on each corner (wanted to keep it quite simple as the setting was so picturesque!),
* the 'signing door' - an old door salvaged from a friends old farm house,
* handmade entrance signs,
* the MOB designed and decorated the suitcase (which belonged to her father) for the guests’ cards (wishing well),
* I made a lot of decorative pieces eg - doily wall hanging, bunting, lace and ribbon hanging over the cake/dessert table, covered jars in lace/twine/ribbon,
* I dried out lavender for 8 months to put in the jars.

We also hired indoor and outdoor couches, picnic rugs, cushions, wine barrels, vintage mismatched wooden chairs, bar stools, wooden benches, festoon lighting and vintage crates to reflect our theme and create a fun, relaxed and laid-back party. Pinterest and CTCW website were addictive!!

Our ceremony commenced at 3pm. After this, guests congratulated us and we had a group photo and then the guests made their way over to the reception for antipasto and drinks. Family photos and the bridal party photos were taken and the bridal party joined the party at around 6.30pm for a cocktail style reception. Finger food and Canapes were served and the dance floor took off!!

During our ceremony, we incorporated quite a few special touches . . .
* Our own personal vows which we read out.
* Billie reading a hilarious and gorgeous self-written poem to us.
* A reading by Charlie's sister Susie, which was the same reading my parents had at their wedding.
* A special acknowledgement to our parents and grandparents who have had such a major impact on our lives.
* Our niece and nephews lead the bridesmaids down the aisle.
* My Bridesmaids did an amazing job to help set up the venue, along with the Charlie’s brother.
* Support from both parents to make the day happen was incredible.

To other brides and grooms I would give you this advice . . . . do your research and look at different options before jumping into decisions.

It can save you a lot of money and it is important to find the right one that reflects what you want/your style. We had so much advice from everyone before the wedding that the day goes SO fast so to take it all in. I think that hearing this so many times; we really did take it all in and soak it all up. The day wasn’t rushed, everything went smoothly and we managed to relax and enjoy every moment.

Also, ensure you get a great photographer and videographer - at the end of all the celebrations it is so magical to relive the day through your photos and video.

There is nothing I would do differently! For me the best part was walking down the aisle and seeing Charlie at the other end. But honestly, everything was perfect and just how we wanted it. Good organisation and trust in your suppliers, being surrounded by family and friends, and you will have the most amazing day.

For our honeymoon, we spent nine nights in Noosa, Queensland, where we had a relaxing break and also celebrated our good friend’s wedding with them.
