Interview with the Bride
We planned our wedding over the space of a year, but we had our 5 month-old son when we got married so it was pretty full on planning around nap times!
We set ourselves a budget of $15,000 and “Yes” we stuck pretty close to it.
We invited 100 guests. We did have children at the wedding including our 5 month old, but the rest of the children were entertained with all the music and dancing.
The bridesmaids where given a box of goodies on the day which contained a robe and a silver bracelet with their initial on it.
I started looking for my dress about 6 months before our wedding . . . . while 9 months pregnant! I loved that I could dance all night in my dress. It was so flowy and amazingly comfortable.
My flowers where amazing, I wanted a bright and summery bouquet and let the florist choose what she thought matched my theme. They were the most beautiful bouquets I have ever seen!
My dad and mother are German, my dad built me a life size German barn front as our ceremony backdrop, it was amazing and set the scene for the whole day.
All the decorations where made by us or from our parents it was a very home made event! This meant everything had lots of meaning making it really special.
My theme was 'rustic floral'. We made bunting using a variety of different floral fabrics and then had flowers everywhere! We also had a mix of rustic vintage items which my mother-in-law and mum had in their sheds.
Something VERY different we decided to do at our wedding, was to have our 'formal' photos before everyone arrived so we could party straight after the ceremony.
The ceremony started at 4:30, we had the reception straight after as guests where all staying at the same venue.
We chose to get married at my family’s farm, its beautiful there and we wanted a low key fun wedding where everyone could party all night long!
Our families all came over to the farm for the week leading up to the wedding, it was so much fun setting everything up together. I loved that we made and created everything for our wedding day, it was such a family event with everyone helping out. It was so special to me that everything was so personal.
It was a week long celebration!
We had a lamb on the spit and local neighbors made salads for the night. We also had home made pizzas in the wood fired pizza oven as nibbles.
We had no seating plan guests could eat when they were hungry and could sit where ever they wanted, we wanted a relaxed party vibe rather then a formal sit down dinner.
We had a choir entertain guests while home made pizzas where being served. We then had our first dance which was a bush dance, guest then joined in and we had a great time bush dancing with them all.
After dinner was served we had a funk band that guests partied with till the early hours of the morning. We had some lovely speeches made by our families.
The groom organised all the meat for the spit, he even carved it up on the wedding night!
He also found the amazing Funk band we had on the night.
Do you have any advice for other Brides planning their wedding?
Get your friends and family involved, it’s so fun making and doing everything together.
Is there anything you would do differently if you could have your wedding again?
No - it was perfect to us!
Where did you go on your honeymoon?
We chose to stay home and enjoy the company of our friends and family who traveled from Canada and over East.
