Kimberley LukeKimberley & Luke's Mornington Springs WA Wedding

Wedding Ceremony & Reception: Mornington Springs, Harvey

Interview with the Bride

Luke & I became engaged on July 22nd 2016 whilst vacating in Savannah, Georgia. We were married on March 25th 2017 - 8 months later.

We had 130 guests, with 12 under the age of 18. We had lawn games set up for the youngest guests, and they also loved dancing throughout the night.

I adored my dress. When I started the search for my dress, I was looking for soft, elegant lace with a beautiful train. My dress was all these things with extra lace details and was surprisingly exceptionally comfortable.

I looked online in the first few weeks of being engaged and saw the two dresses from Cocomelody that I ended up combining! I tried dresses on in different Bridal stores but they didn’t compare!

Luke wore a white shirt, grey pants, dark grey suspenders bow tie, tan belt and shoes.

We didn’t buy gifts for any of our attendants, however we did pay the cost of the groomsmen’s bow ties & socks and the bridesmaid’s makeup.

I met with my florist prior to the wedding and discussed the vision for the bouquets; blues, whites and greens in a semi-structured setting. The wedding was in country WA and I wanted the flowers to suit the location.

My florist was amazing and I was happy to give her creative license with which flowers she chose; as you can see, they were incredible! The reception was decorated with gum leaves and any flowers left from the bouquets, as were the Groomsmen’s button holes.

We chose Mornington Springs as our ceremony and reception location, for it's stunning beauty and the fact that it is away from Perth city. We wanted to emphasise these facts and had a rustic wedding ceremony & reception whilst tieing in the colours blue, white and luscious greens.

The golden summer grass of Mornington Springs was the perfect back drop!

Firstly, Mornington Springs is stunning! It met our physical requirements and Dale, Andrew and Kaila are both accommodating and genuinely wonderful people to work alongside! We are so thankful that we found them!

Guests started to arrive at Mornington Springs in Harvey from 2.30pm

At 3pm the bride & bridesmaids arrived and the ceremony commenced. The ceremony involved the legal declaration by Pastor Graham, prayer, scripture read by Kim’s sisters, Pastor Graham’s message to Luke & Kim, charge, vows, "I Do" and prayer to finish.

At 3.30pm we signed our marriage certificate and were celebrated by family and friends.

We are Christian so it was very important to us to incorporate prayer into our ceremony. Looking back at the footage from the day, it is so incredible to see all of our loved ones actively praying over our future lives together. Each of our immediate family members had a special role on the wedding day and we are so grateful for them.

Pastor Graham didn’t necessarily present our story; we knew everyone attending and he instead gave a wonderful message on love, faith and commitment. It had many guests in tears (both of laughter and sincerity).

The ceremony was a short walk to the marquee (which remained closed until the reception) where there was a grazing table, non-alcoholic beverages and lawn games to play. We were away for 1.5 hours from the end of the ceremony and it all flowed well.

We tried to keep things simple and utilized rustic hire items to assist us in emphasising the natural beauty of Mornington Springs.

Many guests took short walks around the property in the interim period between the ceremony & reception and loved the view.

We had toasts from each of our parents (Kim’s Mum Alison, Luke’s parents Jeff & Selina then Kim’s Dad Simon), our best man Bryce, Maid of Honour Rachel and finally from Luke & Kim.

We loved the speeches but think that a huge highlight of our wedding was the dance floor! It seemed that everyone could fit and we have so many great memories of dancing the night away with our closest loved ones.

My number one advice to other couples would be . . . . do not buy into overspending on things you don’t need!

We made several choices to not include ‘traditional’ costly items at our wedding and we are so glad that we did! Both on the day and since, we have never noticed that they were not there! These include: an extra bouquet to toss, gifts for guests, an expensive wedding cake, expensive clothing, shoes… the list goes on.

Because of this, we were able to afford the wonderful Supper Road catering and hold our entire wedding for far less than estimated.

We chose to delay our honeymoon and are travelling around the USA in July, 2017!
