Originally from Canada, Kendra Benson (pictured below with her beautiful bub) resettled to our gorgeous Southwest corner of Australia. She is an avid surfer/yogi who loves anything outdoors. She became interested in photography at an early age as a means to photograph her friends, and this was back in the days of the darkroom, when there was a little magic to making an image appear on paper seemingly out of nothing.
She pursued photography in University, and became formally trained earning her degree. Throughout her studies, her passion for photographing people has remained; "There's something so interesting about our little transitional moments, between our posing, that I think always make the best photographs."
Kendra has found working with Southwest couples to be a pleasure. "I seem to have been incredibly blessed with relaxed, lovely people (clients). In saying that I am very happy to work with anyone who is willing to have a little fun and be honest about what they want from their photographer."
She is also very conscious of putting her clients at ease when having their photographs taken, believing that it is perfectly natural to NOT know how to pose or where to look. Kendra likes to give a few practical suggestions, talking to each couple about what style they are looking for and discussing the best method to get there. "I find if people understand there are practical ways to get a good photograph it makes it more attainable. Then I let them discover that it can be enjoyable, it just takes a little warm-up sometimes. I can say 100% find their inner model after a little time."
During the photography sessions Kendra Iikes to suggest certain ideas/positions to the couple and then captures what is happening after . . . when they are no longer paying attention to her.
She also beIieves that couples should allow 2 hours for their formal photography, depending on how far the photograph location is from the ceremony and reception location/s. But . . . she believes that she can capture beautiful photographs in whatever schedule is available. Although Kendra has worked in all types of sunlight at at varying times of day, her favourite lighting situation is sunset.
With so many incredible photographers working in our beautiful Southwest, it can be daunting to find the perfect photographer to work with. A quick look at Kendra's work on her website may be all the information you need as her images speak for themselves.
