Materials
Orchid
40cm flared Vase - you can use a variety of vase sizes for this centrepiece
Riverstones
Florist tape or wire
Soda Water - 2lt was used for this vase
Water for top up
Friend for assistance
Instructions
Step 1
Place orchid in vase and cut to length.
Step 2
Wrap wire/tape around one good size pebble and up the stem of the flower (while you are wrapping around the stem you may need a friend to hold the flower steady) the reason why we attach the flower to a pebble is because if you don’t it floats to the top of the vase.
Step 3
Lay the vase on the side and place a few stones on one side of the vase then take the flower and place in the center of the vase and lift the vase back up. The stones will fall into place. Carefully place some more stones in the vase to cover up the stone with the wire/tape without bruising the orchid.
Step 4
Hold the orchid to the centre and slowly start pouring in the soda water. Depending on the size of the vase you can fill to the top with soda water or top with water. (Ratio needed 50/50 at the least)
Once filled with soda water you will see the bubbles raise from the bottom of the vase up the stem over the petals of the flowers giving a look of crystals and making a beautiful center piece which your guests will be ever surprised how the bubbles appear in the vase.
Note:
You can spread tea lights around the base of the vase to laminate the centerpiece for an evening wedding or added colour drops in the water for some extra colour.
Cost of center piece approx $30.00 including vase, orchid, soda water, tape and pebbles.
With this project you can also place the orchid in a long slim vase which looks great also.
