What does your wedding say about you?

What I am about to write should, in my opinion, be the first thing every bride or groom should read before they start planning their wedding day. Be true to yourself. Plan a wedding day that says "this is us".

I see tons of weddings, speak to heaps of couples and wedding suppliers about details everyday and the one thing that always comes to my mind is, if I was to walk into your home and look through your house and then turn up at your wedding would it say this is truly you?

Let's take me as an example and I'm not sure if I am a good example so I do apologise if you think I am out of touch, because I am in my late thirties, I'm comfortable with who I am, don't give a s**t what others think of me and I've been in my relationship for 17 years, so let's just say I'm your average person.

When I get married it will be simple. Just me and my partner with our child, immediate family and the officiant at our lovely home. A few photos around our property, a small one tier chocolate or rainbow layed wedding cake and a nice meal. That's it. You might think that's strange...after all I am a wedding editor...shouldn't I be having the wedding to end all weddings??

But the wedding day I just described is really me. I love my family, the garden I have tended to and the things that surround me. While I could get up in front of a crowd and give a talk I could not get up in front of my closest friends and say my wedding vows, don't ask me why I can't explain the reason. So I won't do that, I would like to have a get together with friends afterwards to celebrate instead.

So before you get lost on Pinterest for hours going nuts pinning everything in sight or you search every wedding blog around the world - stop, take a deep breath and think....

What does this day say about us?

What will we think when we look back 20 years from now?

What is this day really about?
